I don't know, both versions look good to me.
Sometimes I feel like simpler coloring allows you to pay more attention to the art itself.
Like in the simpler colors version all the work you put into his features and the details on his face/head really jump out out at you.

I think I'd be a little upset with the flats previews version as well. I'd rather a black and white sketch version over the bland flats colouring.
The final version looks incredible though. I love it when artists post large versions without the UPC's and various text publishers cover the art up with.
